Architecture 5023 - CAD Studio
Computer Rendering and Animation
Fall 1995
This course was a graduate level elective in rendering and animation using AutoCAD 12, AutoVision and 3D Studio. Most of the students had only 2D AutoCAD experience. The students were making 3D models by the second week, assigning materials and controlling lights by the third week, and making initial animations by the fifth week.
The animations were produced using nine pentium slave machines creating 720 x 486 tga images that were put to tape by a SGI Crimson VGX running WaveFront's Video Creator. The SGI controls a Sony BetaCAM SP tape deck to make studio quality tape productions.
QuickTime movies are available for a few of the projects below. The movies range in size, but BEWARE that 1,095K means 1+ Mega Bytes. You will need a QuickTime player to view the movies. If you are unsure if you have a QuickTime player, choose the smallest movie to download first and test of your system. To keep the file size down these are all "postage stamp size" movies. Most are 180x121 frames. They are small, yet they do communicate the students intentions and some animation skills.
QuickTime Movie (1,453K Bytes) of the animation logo that was created by Professor Dietrich is available here.
