Graduate Program Admissions


Admission requirements include the following:

  1. Meeting requirements for admission to the Graduate College.
  2. One of the following university degrees:
    1. Bachelor of Architecture degree (5yr) from a university outside the USA.
    2. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design (pre-arch 0207A) from OU or equivalent from another university.
  3. The following documents:
    1. a letter of intent;
    2. three letters of recommendation; and
    3. a portfolio.
Letter of intent: Prospective students must submit a letter stating their reasons for wishing to study architecture. The letter should state their interest in the Master's curriculum focus and their professional career goals. It should describe the unique qualities and diversity of experience that they will bring to the program, and what they expect to gain from the program.

Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation from professional and academic references qualified to analyze applicant's abilities and promise in pursuing a Master of Architecture degree.

Portfolio: Prospective students must submit a portfolio of work that demonstrate following knowledge:

  1. Understanding of the basic principles of design and graphics that inform architectural composition.
  2. Ability to use architectural precedents in order to understand the programmatic requirements of building type and the formal responses already built.
  3. Ability to respond to contextual issues of the natural and built environments with an understanding of basic principles of sustainability.
  4. Understanding of structural principles and their appropriate application to the creation of the building envelop.
  5. Understanding of the basic principles of environmental systems, energy use, life-safety systems, and building service systems.
  6. Understanding of the means to comply with building codes, regulations, and standards.
  7. Overall potential for making an outstanding contribution to the culture and goals of the Master's Program.
A faculty committee will review applications to select those most qualified to enter the program.
